Livonia Roots, Livonia Pride
Born and raised in Livonia, Dan Centers is a fourth-generation resident of our great city. As a product of the Livonia Public Schools, he began his education at Jackson Center pre-school and graduated from Churchill High School. Along the way, he earned the honor of Eagle Scout. Dan attended Madonna University in Livonia, earning a Bachelor of Arts with High Honors, as well as a Michigan teaching certificate.
Dan has dedicated his career to serving his community and the institutions that granted him success. After graduating from Madonna University, Dan worked as a classroom teacher, and then as an executive with Boy Scouts of America. He now works as a development officer at Madonna University, working to make higher education more affordable for students.
Twice elected by Livonia voters to serve on the Livonia School Board, Dan has used his experience as a former elementary school teacher to advocate for resources to improve Livonia Public Schools. He also strives to provide public school teachers and staff with the support they need and deserve. Believing that good board members are students too, Dan worked to become a Certified Board Member by the Michigan Association of School Boards. In 2017, Dan was recognized with the Award of Merit from the Michigan Association of School Boards.
In our community, Dan actively volunteers with the Livonia Jaycees, a non-profit organization that promotes civic engagement and positive change through meaningful volunteer work in the local community. Through his work with the Jaycees, Dan was awarded Project of the Year in both 2014 and 2015 for projects that benefited hungry students across Livonia, as well as students who are physically challenged at Livonia’s Webster Elementary. In addition, Dan was named Outstanding Young Michigander by the Michigan Jaycee Foundation in 2014. Besides the Jaycees, Dan is also a member of Civitan International, another volunteer organization, and several PTSA groups.
Dan lives in Livonia with his wife, Janice. Together, Dan and Janice enjoy volunteering, kayaking in Michigan’s beautiful lakes and rivers, and hiking with their adopted dog, Maggie.
